Monkland Tavern, Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Welcome to our photo series Eater Scenes, where Eater photographer Randall Brodeur visits some of the city's great restaurants to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in the day. Today, Monkland Tavern.

Tavern, as locals simply call it, has been the anchor of NDG.'s Monkland Village for 18 years. Owners Stephen Leslie (who also works the line at sister restaurant Tavern on the Square), Barbara Irwin, Donald Lovell and Boris Schweers operate a restaurant that is a neighbourhood spot at heart, open seven days a week, with a menu laced with comfort classics and occasional surprises. On a Tuesday night in mid-October, regulars mingle by the bar, chat up the floor staff and linger over oysters, linguini, burgers, pints and bottles of Sémillon.
