Derek Dammann, busy as ever with Maison Publique and his new cookbook, had dinner with his old pal, and now partner, Jamie Oliver, at Buca in Toronto last night.
Both chefs have long been fans of Buca's Rob Gentile. In 2011 Oliver declared that his favourite meal of the year was at the King Street West spot. And Dammann partnered with Gentile and other Canadian chefs like Matty Matheson (Parts and Labour), Lee Cooper (L'Abbatoir) and Jeremy Charles (Raymonds) earlier this year in Northern Alliance, a dual-city feast founded by chef Matthew Jennings of Providence, Rhode Island restaurant Farmstead, Inc.
From the looks of Instagram, Gentile fed both Oliver and Dammann a menu not too dissimilar from the one in 2011; a progressive blowout of salumi, boar sweetbread sausage, crudo, blood pasta, orecchiette with basil-fed snails and a Taleggio, duck egg yolk and truffle pizza.
