Is the World's Most Expensive Pizza in Verdun?

mazzou.jpg[Photo: Google Maps]

Quite the publicity stunt from a Verdun restaurant today. The owner of Mazzou Pizza alleges to serve the world's most expensive pizza, at $4,250 a pop. The 'Miss Verdun' comes with white truffles, lobster, caviar and 24-Carat gold flakes. No need to go to rue de l'Église to dine at the restaurant either - the price inclues a personal chef to whip it up in your kitchen and a chamber orchestra, no less.

A cursory search for most expensive pizzas, however, invariably conjures an entry from that most authoritative of world record arbiters, Guinness. Turns out the most expensive pizza is not in Verdun. Not even in Montreal. No, Gordon Ramsay's Maze restaurant in London serves the most costly pizza (must be all that wild mizuna lettuce). Sorry Mazzou.

To add insult to injury, one bespoke pizza from Italy trumps them all. From Forbes:

To create each one of his limted-edition signature Louis XIII pies, [Chef Renato Viola of Salerno] pulls together eight different types of cheese, and adds a variety of caviar and lobster. The pizza is then seasoned with pink salt from an Australian river, each grain of which is hand-picked. You can order the meal anywhere in Italy, and Renato will send a small team of chefs to prepare it for you. Each pie requires a 72-hour notice and will set you back $12,000.

If $4,250 is too rich for your taste, Mazzou also has a $333 burger on the menu.
