In what is surely a bid to spice up the Duluth BYOW restaurant scene, nightlife vet Gaston Alberto Barcelo unveiled his "fusion aphrodisiac restaurant and lounge" to a select group of bloggers and PR people last week. Set in what is now the former and totally unrecognisable Le Grain d'Or space, Atame, a not-so-subtle homage to Pedro Almodóvar's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, has a tapas-style menu and theme nights courtesy Bal Érotique's Frank Mondeosé.
A menu posted on Facebook (no website as of yet) indicates that the emphasis at Atame will be on small plates. Amuses and entrées include a melon soup, arctic char sashimi, quails with black truffles, oysters on the half shell, and grilled octopus with heirloom tomatoes. Larger plates to share start at $14 and include crab croquettes, merguez with baba ganoush, and a lobster tagliatelle. Desserts range from a berry panna cotta to a chocolate fondue - to share of course.
