Joe Beef and Moishes are markedly different but there is some cross-pollination between the two restaurants. So news that the former's Dave McMillan and Fred Morin will fête Lenny (pictured, at right, with McMillan) and Larry Lighter's steakhouse, 75 years after Moishe Lighter sank his entire fortune of $300 on a restaurant at the same boulevard Saint-Laurent address, makes sense.
The tribute dinner will take place at Moishes on Monday, October 21, with a menu that will combine kitchen crews and classics from both restaurants. Expect chopped liver, côte de bœuf and, possibly, oysters. As for the foie gras double down, that infamous Joe Beef menu staple nightmare? Maybe not so much. At any rate, proceeds will benefit the Montréal Children's Hospital and the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine.
Joe Beef and Moishes also join forces tonight, along with a host of others, at a Stewart Museum fundraiser in honour of the original Joe Beef, Charles McKiernan.
