Is Montreal's First Feline Café a Catastrophe?

Contrary to some blogosphere posts, Montreal's first cat café is not open. Café Chat l'Heureux is not even a physical entity as of yet - the café is sans phone number and address. Moreover, the café is not even the first feline coffeeshop in North America - see here and here - as some have been hasty to report.

What we can call Café Chat l'Heureux, however, is a crowdfunded shitshow effort with a ton of media coverage. Because, you know, cats.

The café's spiritual pilot is one Clément Marty. Marty is a nomadic sort whose LinkedIn profile includes recent stints as a beach attendant in Nice, a farmhand in Bundaberg, Australia, a temp in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and a security guard in Chicoutimi.

When it comes to his hypothetical cat café, Marty has done well by his Bac in admin from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. The café's Indiegogo page has over 240 funders at present and a grand total of $7,593. Still shy of the $40,000 target but Marty's crusade on behalf of cat lovers has 45 days left. And over 10,000 Facebook likes.
