10 Restaurants That Serve Horse in Montreal

Photo: WordPress

Horse was all over the news in 2012 and 2013. Former Au Pied de Cochon chef Hugue Dufour had to pull horse tartare from his M. Wells Dinette menu in September 2012 because of a Change.org petition. Never mind that Dufour had sold some 5,000 horse bologna, foie gras and cheese sandwiches at a food festival in Brooklyn months before.

Then the infamous adulteration scandal in Europe of 2013 (still in progress) in which beef products at the likes of Tesco and Ikea tested positive for horse. Undeclared horse—a lot of it—and very little beef.

In Montreal of course, horse meat is, if not quite a staple, a benign menu item. Here are ten restaurants that serve cheval on the regular. Happy Year of the Horse.
