A new coffeeshop in the Marché St-Jacques quarter of the Village gets its name from a Levantine/North African dessert. Café Sfouf explains it this way on Facebook:
The sfouf is a semolina and turmeric cake made without eggs. Traditionally decorated with pine nuts, this moist delicacy has a special taste that blends perfectly with coffee. We will be pleased to offer you a square of sfouf with each drink you order. Enough to make your mouth water!
Café Sfouf is now open at 1250 Ontario Est for breakfast, lunch (think soups, tartines) and coffee from Wednesday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends. Principals include general manager Gaby Kassas and, in the kitchen, Jeanne Cherel and Lucie Larin-Picard.
