The group that gave Montreal Salon Officiel and Mme Lee is behind the replacement for Royal Phoenix in Mile End on the corner of Bernard and Saint-Laurent.
The Ping Pong Club sports a ping pong table, natch, with foosball to come. But unlike at Spin in Manhattan or Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn, the games are more afterthought than raison d'être.
What Ping Pong Club has is a long bar, booths and communal cafeteria-style tables and a small menu of bites (think alphabet soup with homemade cheese crackers, deviled eggs and poutine galvaude). Beers on tap and cocktails too, with boozy milkshakes and smoothies.
The bar's hours on Facebook are Monday to Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. but a manager tells Eater Montreal that last call is set for 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for now. There are plans to expand the menu and offer brunch and lunch down the line.
