The first bona fide café from popular food truck Dispatch Coffee (small McGill campus presence aside) opens this Saturday, October 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 267 Saint-Zotique Ouest.

The arrival of Chrissy Durcak's inaugural brick and mortar coffeeshop is a boon for trim Mile-Ex, which, while not far from the likes of Caffè San Simeon, Moustache and Odessa, lacks a proper, single-minded café within its own compact borders.

That will change this week when Dispatch introduces Montreal to the Modbar system from Fort Wayne, Indiana, described by one site as "a new and revolutionary coffee brewing experience. Completely modular with all the major hardware under-counter, all the customer experiences are beautiful ‘taps’ that are designed for espresso, steam, and drip coffee."

Customers will be able to purchase coffee en vrac from Dispatch and can accompany shots of espresso with a range of toasts and toppers: honey, jam, cinnamon sugar, avocado, egg salad et al. Hof Kelsten will supply the bread.

Durcak also told Eater Montreal in July that she wants to be "very transparent about the whole process. We're currently looking for green bean buyers who have the highest quality standards (no pesticides, picked by hand) and work with co-ops or microlot farmers. We also want to make sure the farmers we get our beans from are getting a fair wage."
