"My dad is from Philly and I spend a lot of time in the city. I have never had a decent cheesesteak in Montreal." Strong words from Danilo Rubbo, the owner of a new cheesesteak shop in Mile End, open as of today at 125 St-Viateur Ouest in the old L'Écume Des Jours bookstore across from Café Olimpico.
Rubbo and his brother Lucio, also a partner, hope to import some of the best elements from top cheesesteak shops in Philadelphia, Steve's Prince of Steaks and Tony Luke's specifically, and introduce the City of Brotherly Love staple to Montreal. Customers can get a taste between noon and 5:00 p.m. today.
