Fred Lafontaine of L'Gros Luxe took home the second Drunken Masters competition at Le Mal Nécessaire bar in Chinatown yesterday.
The shirtless cocktail whisperer claimed the top spot over the likes of Simon Lesperance (now at Jatoba, formerly Slang, B1), Val Chagnon (Le Mal Nécessaire) and Eater Bartender of the Year Jonathan Homier (B1).
Bartenders put in $20 to compete (the total take-home pot was $300) and were judged by a veteran panel of industry experts on speed, efficacy and quality. Each competitor made the same five drinks: New York Sour, Zorro Rojo, Rum Egg Nog, Penicillin, Hanky Panky.

Ultimately, the dynamic Lafontaine edged out the competition. The bartender came close in the last Drunken Masters event in October, when he finished just behind winner Lesperance.
