Five months after it was first announced, Blackstrap BBQ partners Clara Barron and Dylan Kier officially open Tejano BBQ Burrito today.
Kier spoke about the project back in July.
It'll really be burritos and burrito bowls. I like to keep it simple. We'll start if off like that and hear what the people have to say. Then we'll make adjustments if need be.
The way it happened is I was a bit tired of eating brisket. I have to taste it for quality at the restaurant and at competitions all the time. I started bringing barbecue home from Blackstrap and making burritos and tacos with it. Then we found out about this space. So that's why we're doing it. Leftover barbecue is how it happened. I love a good burrito. Whenever I go to the States I eat at Chipotle.
One Chowhound member provides this preliminary soft launch review of Tejano's burritos.
So its pretty good! They had 3 meats and 2-3 veg options. There was a smoked chicken, a brisket and a pulled pork. Not sure about the veg ones, I believe one of them was beans. 9$ for a regular one and 12$ for XL, whole wheat and white wraps. And 1$ extra for Guacamole. I had the smoked chicken, which reminded me more of eating ground beef because of the texture. I enjoyed it though. There are several toppings you can add free of charge like corn, jalapeños and beans. In my opinion one of the better burritos Ive had and would return here over the other places like M4 , burrito shop and Jimmy Guaco's mainly because of convenience since I live not too far.
Tejano is now open Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The burrito shop will eventually open seven days a week, reports Kier.
