Reviews for Le Bremner, Le Ballpark, Mei and More

Lesley Chesterman reserves some kind words for Le Bremner and chef Danny Smiles: "Ultimately my meal at Le Bremner felt like the sort of potluck dinner assembled by a bunch of foodie friends who can really cook. Combine the food with the house-party ambience, and you have the makings of one heck of a fun evening." [Gazette]

Finally, a review for meatball-polpette purveyor Le Ballpark. "Good bet", writes Sarah Musgrave: "It's clear that the team cares — for example, the cocktails (which run from a Caesar with an oyster and pickled celery to a bubbly Seelbach with Prosecco and Aperol) are actively being tweaked — and the owners are attentive to feedback from the communities it serves to make this work where previous occupant Zito e Mangia couldn't." [Gazette]

It seems like ages since a restaurant in the Casino de Montréal drew a critic off-island. Now Andrée Harvey has her say on the new slot machine-adjacent, post-Nuances Le Montréal. On the whole, the restaurant looks like a bit of a gamble: "On ne doit pas s'attendre à retrouver les mêmes qualités gastronomiques qu'au Nuances. Le Montréal joue plutôt dans le registre des plats conviviaux réalisés avec soin et présentés avec élégance." [Voir]

After a prompt from culinary despot Bartek Komorowski, Marie-Claude Lortie ventures to Mei to proffer a rare review of a Chinese restaurant. This one merits return trips, notably for noodles and crispy pancakes: "C'est léger, hyper croustillant, frit et friable, ça fond en bouche. On a à peine le temps de s'émerveiller sur la sauce sucrée évoquant vaguement le hoisin, la présence délicate d'un peu d'oignon vert, et voilà que c'est disparu, avec quelques miettes comme seules traces de ce délicieux intermède."
