Panel Rules on Montreal Food Truck Fates

Photo: Facebook

The Association des restaurateurs de rue du Québec convened a panel yesterday to decide the relative merits of seven prospective members. In a Dragon's Den-like format, seven food truck operators, keen to garner the benefits of the street food umbrella association of record in Montreal, made a case for membership with documents, testimony and, yes, edible samples. On the jury: restaurateurs, food truck operators, food writers and a food media personality of note.

Successful applicants, in exchange for a yearly association fee, will have access to expertise, resources, support and, notably, events like First Fridays, the monthly street food bash at the Espace Jackie Robinson in Olympic Park (see photo), the Just for Laughs souk in July and other food truck confabs all over the city between May and October. Rejects can still petition the city for a permit to sell food at one of 14 official spots.
