Dirty Dogs, the new restaurant that replaces La Pretzelleria on Mont-Royal, corner Saint-Laurent, did gangbusters business over the weekend. So much so that the pusher of deluxe wieners had to shut it down at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, in spite of an "Always open" promise on Facebook.

Dirty Dogs, ostensibly, is not your average stimé or toasté outfit. CultMTL reports that prior to brick and mortar permanence, the owners ran a popular pop-up and made waves with outrageous bun-fillers like steak tartare and fried eggs with hollandaise.

The makers of the "best hot dogs in Montreal" serve up dogs with titles like "Le Morgan Freeman" (jalapeño pork sausage, pulled pork, pickles, grilled onions, yellow mustard), "Le Denis Coderre" (pork sausage with herbs, coleslaw, onions, mustard and spices) and "Le Danny Trejo" (chorizo, tomatoes, onions, jalapeño sauce and mayo).

"Le Paula Deen" is notable. The homage to the controversial celebrity chef takes one apple cider pork sausage, wraps it in bacon and a pancake and adds frites, powdered sugar and maple syrup. Because sucré salé.

Care for a foie gras supplement? Order "Le Maurice Richard." More of that foie gras comes on top of a duck stock poutine (Au Pied de Cochon with the assist), with other sides like mac and cheese and duck "croquettes."
