Nestlé Waters Canada announces today that Le Bremner frontman Danny Smiles will become the first chef from Canada to compete in the S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup in Venice, Italy this June 13 and 14.

As part of the 14th annual event, the former Top Chef Canada contestant will have to prepare a dish in the galley of a regatta-quality sailboat. No easy task, as this video of 2013 winner (and Top Chef season nine champ) Paul Qui confirms.

"For sure, it's an unusual cooking challenge," says Smiles. "Creating a winning dish in a sailboat galley while it's racing around a course in the Venetian lagoon is hard to imagine. But I'm definitely up for it and honoured S. Pellegrino selected me to compete as its first Canadian competitor."

The event typically offers competitors the chance to showcase skills in front of a stellar cast of big name chefs. Massimo Bottura, for one, of perpetual S. Pellegrino "World's 50 Best" pet Osteria Francescana, was a judge in 2013.
