Best Bagel in Montreal: Fairmount or St-Viateur?

The poll of polls, full of holes.

As New Yorkers whip themselves into a Cronut™-like frenzy over the Montrealish bagels on offer at Black Seed—the new Nolita schmear shop from Montreal native Noah Bernamoff (Mile End Deli) and Matt Kliegman (The Smile)—the ultimate bagel query comes to mind: Fairmount or St-Viateur?. The Mile End staples play a pivotal role in the bagel's origin story in North America. Many copycats have come and gone and the cast, somewhat deplorably, now includes flax, whole wheat, and cinnamon raisin, but decades on, Fairmount and St-Viateur endure.

So where do you go for your Montreal bagel fix and why? Place your vote below and make your case in the comments. Oh and feel free to share your affinity for sesame or poppy seed too. This poll is now closed.
