Mile End Deli Gives New York a Week of Poutine

Mile End, the cult, whimsical ode to the Montreal Jewish deli that sits on the list of 38 Essential New York Restaurants, intros another Poutine Week today.

Noah and Rae Bernamoff and chef Eli Sussman have done well to feed New Yorkers riffs on Montreal comfort food ever since Mile End hit the scene in 2010. (See the "Ruth Wilensky" on the deli's brunch menu.) The insane lines outside Black Seed, the relatively new, Montreal-style bagel shop in Nolita from Bernamoff and partner Matt Kliegman, seem to infer that the Big Apple hungers for more 514 fare.

And so, Poutine Week. It all starts today at Mile End Brooklyn and NoHo with a beef tongue take on the original. Tomorrow a smoked meat, burger poutine is on the menu, with the likes of "General Tso's" and a foie gras poutine later in the week. Intrepid diners who try all five get a large classic poutine, gratis.
