The hotly-anticipated GEMA opens today. The no reservations pizza and frozen custard spot from Impasto principals Stefano Faita and Michele Forgione will welcome customers as of 5:00 p.m. Pizzaiolo Anthony Di Iorio will be a busy man, no doubt. GEMA's dining room and take-out window hours, for now, are Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Thursday, Friday, Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Take note: lunch service starts next week.
The restaurant seats 42, plus ten more on a not-yet-complete sidewalk patio on Dante. A possible plan to add a larger terrasse to an adjacent lot in 2015 will expand on that number considerably if it comes to pass.
Faita is hopeful his liquor permit will come in today.
Eater Montreal photographer Randall Brodeur was on hand this past Monday at what was still a work in progress as Faita and Forgione prepped for launch. Enjoy the captures.
