Chef Jouvens Jean will collaborate with Scarpetta chef Monick Gilles at the Mile End restaurant for a special West Indian meets Italian menu on Friday, January 23.

Jean, late of Pierre's Restaurant at Morada Bay in the Florida Keys, is notable for his triumphant stints on such Food Network shows as Chef Wanted and Cutthroat Kitchen. Gilles, of course, is familiar for her work at Scarpetta but also, prior, at the likes of Il Sole, Il Mulino and Graziella.

In a statement disseminated in advance of the event, Gilles declares that "it's a pleasure for me to be hosting [Jouvens] at Scarpetta — he's really made his mark on such an international level. We will be marrying together our bold visions and offering up original, flavourful cuisine that explores new territory."

On the menu: pickles and fried breadfruit; jerk-spiced snapper over caponata; hand-made mushroom fettucine with lobster cream; sous-vide creole oxtail with sweet-plantain arancino; mango and coconut semifreddo, Barbancourt pineapple, prosecco jelly and wines from Oenopole.

The first service on January 23 will start at 6:30 p.m. and the second at 9 p.m. Guests can choose a $65 table d'hôte or a $112 table d'hôte with wines. Prices include tax and service fees.
