Baravin, des saveurs à partager, a relatively new Latin Quarter wine bar, made an unusual announcement (translated below) on Twitter and Facebook this past January 15.
Baravin has had to close under duress. The owners have been dispossessed of all their goods and put on the street by the landlord because they struggled to pay the rent at the end of the year. We're told it's like this every day in Montreal.
An individual close to the project confirmed yesterday that while the end of 2014 was difficult, the wine bar was scheduled to reopen after a ten day New Year's hiatus. The day before, January 14, however, landlord Hok Ching (David) Do allegedly requisitioned the space and forced Baravin to close.
Efforts were made to contact David Do but the property owner was unavailable for comment. Do and Baravin's owners are now en procédure to resolve the matter.
