Marie-Claude Lortie Loves Mercuri's Fiery Side

Much praise in La Presse today.

Marie-Claude Lortie pays a visit this week to chef Joe Mercuri's eponymous two-in-one restaurant concept on Wellington, on the edge of Old Montreal. The critic for La Presse dines, somewhat sparingly, at the casual Bar Mercuri half of the restaurant, where a massive fire pit is put to good use: "Mais en plein mois de janvier à Montréal, c'est un feu de cheminée que je cherchais. Et je l'ai trouvé dans ce bar-resto sympathique, où l'on mange une cuisine italienne pas toujours totalement orthodoxe (et pas non plus donnée), mais franchement savoureuse."

Notable items from the menu include a mushroom ragù, roasted Brussels sprouts with pancetta and a main of cerf de Boileau with Chinese broccoli and grilled cauliflower. Coupled with good service and a warm atmosphere, Lortie vows to return to Mercuri soon. In fact: "C'est déjà fait."
