Montreal's First Puppy Café Is Strictly for the Dogs

Photos by Randall Brodeur

A treacherous ice storm that left thousands without power over the weekend did not put a damper on Le Doggy Café's plan to open to the public yesterday. With a vegetarian menu (for humans) that accents organic, fair trade, vegan, and gluten-free, the venture hits all the requisite notes in a dog-friendly atmosphere in the Plateau. For the pooch in your life there are homemade biscuits, obedience workshops, conferences and canine cuisine demos. The coffee shop's mastermind is Gabrielle Aubin, an ITHQ grad, and the ex-manager of poutine temple La Banquise. Le Doggy Café is now open Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at 4493 Papineau, corner Mont-Royal.
