Chef Jérôme Ferrer's Europea is the second-best restaurant in the world. This, the verdict of the just-announced fine dining portion of TripAdvisor's 2015 Travelers' Choice Awards. The downtown Montreal Relais & Châteaux restaurant was bested only by Spain's Martin Berasategui.

The Travelers' Choice Awards are based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers worldwide. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for restaurants around the world, gathered over a 12-month period. Michelin-starred, and World's 50 Best restaurants like El Celler de Can Roca (#11), Alinea (#16), and Noma (#20), also placed on the TripAdvisor list. In 2014 Europea was named second-best restaurant in North America, after Alinea. Incidentally, the highest-rated Montreal restaurant on TripAdvisor, out of more than 4,600 restaurants reviewed, is Mile End's Les Deux Singes de Montarvie.
