A spokesperson for Bantam Restaurant Group, the enigmatic Old Montreal-based company from Caleb Koeppel and Wayne Sellers that gave Montreal Five Guys, confirms today that Bawk Box, a chicken and waffles concept with two outlets in Laval and the Village, is done: "It's been quite a while actually. One restaurant closed in August and the other in September."
Bawk Box came to town amid a flurry of media hype. Urban Expressions wrote a year ago that: "Since the Laval opening, Sellers says BAWK BOX waffles have garnered a lot of attention, and his plans for the next restaurant include mass producing the waffles for grocery stores. The space will be bigger and have an open-kitchen where customers can see the cooking and production for themselves."
Alas, it looks like waffles in the shape of zoo animals was too progressive for Montreal.
