A new version of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz: The Musical, by Alan Menken and David Spencer, based on the book by Mordecai Richler, will debut at the Segal Centre this June. The trailer, released last week, features a touch of Mile End authenticity in the form of Wilensky's Light Lunch, immortalized both in the novel and in the 1974 film version with Richard Dreyfuss as the cocksure Montreal hustler. Sharon Wilensky, who can be seen in the trailer, spoke a little about the iconic book's impact on her family's restaurant this past January.
