Bryan Petroff and Doug Quint, the madcap duo behind Big Gay Ice Cream, spent a few whirlwind days in Montreal a year ago in advance of some monumental plans. Petroff, for starters, was about to decamp for Los Angeles to get a new shop off the ground; with another in the works for Philadelphia.
The big scoop from the creators of the Salty Pimp and Bea Arthur, however, was the imminent publication of Big Gay Ice Cream: Saucy Stories & Frozen Treats: Going All the Way with Ice Cream. The funky "yearbook of ice cream accomplishments" includes a message from "headmaster" Anthony Bourdain and a heavy dose of the duo's trademark irreverence. Fast forward a year and the promotional tour for the cheeky cookbook includes pop-ups at Joe Beef and Pizzeria Gema. Here's the itinerary:
Saturday, May 9
Appetite for Books: demo, Q & A, book signing
Joe Beef: dessert takeover
Sunday, May 10
Pizzeria Gema: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., dessert takeover
