Marie-Claude Lortie Loves Trilogie, Montreal's Hidden Dumpling Treasure

Dumpling pusher Trilogie is on a roll. Three weeks after a positive write-up in the Gazette, the restaurant from sisters Anita and Amy Feng has a new convert in Marie-Claude Lortie. The La Presse critic ambles over to the Park Ex / Villeray spot and is rapidly won over by the convivial, unpretentious space where "[t]out est simple mais bien fait. Jamais brutal, jamais banal."

As for the stars of the show, Lortie duly falls in line. Trilogie makes some of the best dumplings in Montreal: "Le jour de notre passage, on y avait mis du chou, des champignons shiitake finement hachés, de minuscules morceaux de tofu haché. Un délice délicat, parfaitement bien composé, à manger brûlant pour que la pâte fine et juste assez élastique s'abandonne en éclatant légèrement tout en tendresse, mais avec une certaine tenue, le défi d'un dumpling bien fait."

The restaurant's signature umami dumpling is a big "coup de coeur." Happily, the bitterness of the kitchen's only letdown, a fried spring roll, is overcome by Trilogie's desserts, which cap "un repas sans prétention, fin et agréable. Et vraiment fort abordable." Will Lortie return? "C'est sûr!"
