Partners Andrea Casas and Jaime Andrés Ruiz closed Gracias Corazón earlier this month. The gluten-free Colombian restaurant had been open for approximately two years. Here's the backstory, translated from Gracias Corazón's website.
Natives of Colombia, Jaime Andrés and Andrea came to Canada in 2007. They brought with them a culinary background and strong desire to share and publicize it. In 2012, they invested all their savings to start Gracias Corazón, a cool neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Mile End. They have thus transformed the former José deli into a window on the contemporary food culture of Colombia, and adapted it for those who live in the area.
It looks like Casas and Ruiz have plans to re-open elsewhere, so stay tuned for that development. As for what to expect next at Gracias Corazón's space at 75 Saint-Viateur Ouest, this bit of news may offer some hints: Danny Lavy and Stephen Shiller purchased the building in 2014. The real estate tycoons own many properties with tenant restaurants, most notably along Notre-Dame Ouest between Griffintown and Saint-Henri.
