Le Red Tiger

After months of anticipation, Le Red Tiger, led by principals Emilie Nguyen, Phong Thach (both of Kaiji Restaurant in Villeray) and Dan Pham (late of Jack Saloon and Le Confessional), soft opens today. The Vietnamese pub has made over the old Lanterne restaurant in the Village to focus on hard-to-find street food and home-cooked classics. A far cry from your average pho shop, in other words — to wit, Le Red Tiger's beverage program involves copper barware and bespoke beer tap handles. Cocktails include the F.O.B. (gin, Thai basil syrup, lime and egg white) and the District Mot (Cognac, fresh lime juice, ginger and vanilla syrup, coconut milk and house mango soda).

To accompany the lineup of beers and drinks, Le Red Tiger offers the likes of beef jerky papaya salad, duck confit imperial rolls, beef brochettes with citronella, pork and shrimp dumplings, and mussels with fish sauce and peanuts. There are five-spice pork ribs, nuoc mam chicken wings, a beef carpaccio and a quartet of desserts as well. See the inaugural menus below and, for a limited time, get a free dish if you reserve online here.

Status: Le Red Tiger, 1201 de Maisonneuve Est, Monday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
