Red Bird Café, from cookbook author and matzo buttercrunch innovator Marcy Goldman and son Jonathan Goldman, is open as of today. The breakfast and lunch spot bills itself thusly: "Take a best-selling cookbook author, and her son with a vision of sharing gourmet food with people around the world, and you have Red Bird Café & Bakery." The café's menu (below), skews health-conscious: think kale Caesar salad, quinoa burgers, hummus, wraps, and soups. There are a variety of baked goods too, like scones, muffins, and carrot cake.
Jonathan Goldman described the venture like this back in April: "The idea for Red Bird was born out of my desire to share the culinary wealth so to speak. Having tasted things like pizza croissants and Mandarin Chocolate Chip Biscotti, I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to experience the ambrosial flavors and genuine hospitality that was my birthright."
Status: Red Bird Café, 4276 Saint-Laurent, (514) 843-3856, now open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
