A Chinese restaurant north of Montreal is in hot water with Revenu Québec. Principals in Le Port de Chine in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, 100 km north of the city, have been hit with 456 counts of tax fraud, reports the Gazette. Several employees and administrators now face possible prison time and fines of $1.3 million or more. Sad news for loyal customers who deemed the restaurant's General Tao chicken the best ever.
The provincial tax authority has led some prominent cases against Montreal restaurants lately but a veteran tax lawyer likens the audits to harassment and says it just makes it more difficult to do business in Quebec.
