Another new restaurant is open in Mile End. Literally. Un Autre Resto Bar, in the former Café Local, serves "pizza, pasta, pollo." Principal Nicola Odorisio made waves in 2009 with a pay-what-you-want format restaurant called Taverne Crescent. The Toronto Star wrote at the time that "Nicky Odorisio, co-owner of the stylish 'upscale tavern,' is hoping to attract clients willing to pay a fair price, but he said no offer will be turned away – no matter how unreasonable it may be."
Un Autre Resto Bar will not appropriate the unorthodox concept but will serve wood-fired pizza. This may play well with residents who consider Pizza St-Viateur too lowbrow, and Magpie and Gema too far of a walk. With another Neapolitan-style pizzeria rumoured for the former Gracias Corazón space down the street, Mile End's pizza fortunes are on the rise.
Status: Un Autre Resto Bar, 200 Saint-Viateur, (514) 447-4114, now open.
