Jesse Mulder is taking his Thai delivery/pop up, Chak Wow, and setting up shop every Sunday night at Sparrow starting August 9. Making what many consider to be Montreal's most authentic Thai food, Mulder is coming off a four month long Southeast Asian stint where he did a couple stages, both in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. With a menu that will change every two weeks, Mulder is very excited to be back in a restaurant space.
"It's going to be a mix of down and dirty street eats as well as more fine dining options", says Mulder. "It's going to be dishes that I haven't done for Chak Wow or any other pop ups in the past".
Along with the very talented pastry chef Kathy Daehler (previously head of the kitchen at Cardinal Tea Room), who is working on some Thai desserts that are outside the realm of mango and sticky rice, Sparrow co-owner Murad Meshgini will also be mixing up some new cocktails to go with Mulder's food.
Invigorated from his recent travels, Mulder is focusing his menu on how his dishes complement each other. "I want to be more comprehensive in the interplay of my flavours. Hopefully this new Sunday night menu will be unexplored territory for most Montrealers".
The Chak Wow/Sparrow collaboration is set to last until late October. Bring on the heat.
