NDG restaurant Caveau Szechuan, a popular peddler of Hunan dumplings, crispy spinach, General Tao chicken, and sesame beef for close to two decades, has made way for a new Casa de Mateo, reports a spokesperson for MK Real Estate Group Inc., which owns the property at 6000 Monkland. "Casa de Mateo has been incredibly busy since it opened," confided the landlord's rep today. "We're very pleased."

Casa de Mateo, itself an on-again, off-again fixture in Old Montreal for over 25 years, and with an unremarkable standing on Yelp, has done little to trumpet the fact that its menu of fajitas, enchiladas, and pollo al mangue, is now available in NDG—other than a subtle nod on its website (be advised: website features actual trumpets). Caveau Szechuan, for its part, has not divulged why it ceased operations. Attempts to reach the restaurant's owner have been so far unsuccessful.
