Are hotel restaurants in Montreal in the midst of a renaissance? Recent projects like the Alt Hotel Griffintown, home to Industria, and the future Hôtel Mount Stephen, where Toronto's Oliver & Bonacini will helm food and bev, suggest that the answer could be yes.
Now the aptly-named Renaissance downtown, a Marriott property, wants to go beyond humdrum hotel fare with East (not Est), a "refined, pan-Asian restaurant" open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mixologist-for-hire Lawrence Picard, of Nectar & Mixologie, was called on to create the cocktail list. Groupe Satori, the South Shore based restaurant group from principals Ladi Cheng and Thyda Ouy, also operates Satori Sushi in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, open since 2003, and Siam Restaurant Thai in Brossard's Quartier DIX30 mega mall.
Status: East, 1250 boulevard Robert-Bourassa, corner Cathcart, (514) 657-5000. Opens Monday, January 18 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
