La Cucina, a pizza and pasta peddler on the Main between Laurier and Fairmount, has closed. Despite its enviable terrasse, the Italian restaurant had spotty online reviews, and was in tough in a neighbourhood with high standards, and stiff competition. La Cucina's management told Eater over the weekend that "We sold the building and the restaurant happens to come with."
Which raises a tantalizing possibility. Guillaume, the wildly popular bakery next door, enjoys sleek, but cramped quarters. Might owners Guillaume Vaillant and Valériane Lamirande-Gauvin be positioning themselves for an expansion into La Cucina's larger digs? The partners already own the building that houses the bakery at 5130 - 5134 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Suite 101. It's pure speculation at this point, obviously, but it's a move most Mile End residents would love to see happen. Eater has reached out to Guillaume for comment. Stay tuned.
Update, January 26: Guillaume will indeed take over La Cucina.
