Another week, another cool new café project to announce. This time the honour belongs to Pista, a seasonal mobile café on wheels that rolls on the streets of Montreal for special cultural and corporate events. Principals François Cormier and Maxime Richard have secured a permanent address across from Beaubien métro in La Petite-Patrie, in the locally famous Château St-Vallier landmark. (Incidentally, this will place Pista a mere block away from Cafellini Beaubien, a relatively new café that opened in January.) The last tenant, a pharmacy, was a neighbourhood fixture for three decades. The new owners plan to give the 1,000 square-foot premises a makeover that pays homage to the space's history. The brick-and-mortar Pista is slated to open sometime in April.
Status: Café Pista, 500 Beaubien Est, corner Saint-Vallier, La Petite-Patrie, (514) 436-6329, opens next month.
