After a lot of advance publicity and permit troubles, a retro video arcade bar has finally set a date. Arcade MTL will open on April 1 in the Quartier Latin. The long anticipated project will take over from Exit Bar & Spectacles. Management announced today that for a $5 entry fee, patrons will enjoy access to about fifteen retro arcade games and a host of console games. The bar will sell beers and cocktails.
Another gamer-centric bar is located on Ontario, around the corner from the proposed Arcade MTL. Nexus SmartBar serves beer, game-themed cocktails, and seeks to "promote and bolster a wholesome gaming lifestyle by giving each and every enthusiast the opportunity to manifest his passion for video games." Time will tell how the two projects co-exist in such close proximity in a part of the city choked with student bars. Back in January, North Star, a bar and bona fide homage to retro pinball machines, opened in the former Korova in the Plateau.
