A fire that broke out Monday afternoon in the basement of Mumbai restaurant has damaged Mumbai and neighbouring restaurant EVOO on rue Notre-Dame in Saint-Henri. The restaurants and the two apartments above were evacuated and no one was injured, according to TVA Nouvelles. Fifty firefighters were dispatched to the scene, and the damage to the building totaled about $50,000, according to the Montreal Fire Department. EVOO will have to close for an indefinite amount of time, the restaurant said in a statement on its Facebook page: “Malheureusement nous avons été affectés ce qui nous oblige à fermer pour une durée indéterminée. Soyez sans crainte, il n'y a eu aucun blessé et nous nous portons bien malgré les circonstances.” While the cause of the fire is still unknown, unlike last week's suspected arson at Candi Bar on the Plateau, criminal activity is not suspected.
