Kitchen Galerie is back, months after the Little Italy standby closed to absorb an empty commercial space next door. Principals Mathieu Bourdages, Mathieu Cloutier, and Axel Mevel have expanded the restaurant adjacent to Jean-Talon Market considerably; the bigger dining room now seats 85, up from a cozy 27. The move caps off a busy year for the trio — Brïz, a Mediterranean-Italian restaurant, joined the Kitchen Galerie family at the end of April 2015. The upgrade at Kitchen Galerie was not just necessary, but urgent, Bourdages recently told Voir. “The key was to expand and keep the warm atmosphere that distinguished the restaurant for almost ten years.”
The restaurateurs have also added an espace boutique called Kitchen 2go, stocked with products, sandwiches, and prepared dishes. Some menu changes have been made at the restaurant as well. Regulars can still enjoy Kitchen Galerie signatures like foie gras au lave-vaisselle, and côte de boeuf for two, but Cloutier and Bourdages have made more à la carte options available for those who want to deviate from the classic table d’hôte.
Status: Kitchen Galerie, 60 Jean-Talon Est, (514) 315-8994, now re-opened Tuesday to Saturday as of 6 p.m.
