Boucherie Provisions Makes Sandwich Magic in Outremont

An artisanal butcher, prêt-à-manger shop, and sandwich counter from Provisions, one of the best new restaurants of the past year, is officially open on Van Horne in Outremont. Partners Tina An, Hakim Rahal, and Pablo Rojas took over the former Boucherie du Gourmand at 1142 Van Horne, two blocks from Provisions, earlier this year, and spruced up the old digs. "We are going to put in a counter and some stools," An told Eater. "The rest is mostly aesthetic. We will offer many takeout options. We are looking to do something in the style of Maître Boucher on Monkland." Look, then, for whole animal butchery, house-made charcuterie, sandwiches (Cuban, rillettes, and brisket for now) made with Hof Kelsten bread, and some salads. It's a shot in the arm for Outremont, and a business model that mirrors the likes of downtown's Boucherie Dans La Côte, Centre-Sud's La Réserve, Mile End's Boucherie Lawrence, and Ahuntsic's Ça Va Barder. There's never been a better time to support your local, independent butchers in Montreal.

Status: Boucherie Provisions, 1142 Van Horne, now open Monday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
