Fruiterie Mile End is a Parc Avenue staple, known to many in the area for its towering arrangements of produce, dizzying tea selection, and copious array of organic products, all sold in an unfailingly clear grocery store.
Now, its owners are taking on the food service business, opening up Délicieux Veg Fusion Café in the former Em Café space just a few doors north of the fruiterie on Parc.
It opened up this week, serving a myriad of all-vegan eats in a bright café-slash-cafeteria setting — the second addition to the city’s vegan scene in just a few days, too.
On offer is a mixed bag of menu items that should appeal to health-conscious vegans (an açai berry “power bowl”, as just one example), alongside standards, like a veggie burger,, and more comfort food options like sweet potato fries or cauliflower bites with ranch dip, vegan cheesecake, sorbets, and a host of Algerian pastry-based desserts.
The menu was put together by Ayesha Gidwani, who previously helped build-up fast-casual vegan success story Copper Branch, and fits with the eatery’s self-description as fusion. There’s elements drawn from different Thai and Indian cuisines, but the menu doesn’t skew heavily towards any single culinary tradition — peep the menu further down the page.
It seems to be working out — Délicieux has been posting some adorably wholesome videos of its customers (some of whom could be considered “very Mile End”) on social media.
