Mark your calendars; as of June 29th, Falafel Avenue will be opening the doors of its new Plateau location on the Mont-Royal strip, designed by Jean-Pierre Viau with a mural and neon signage:
What began as a flagship operation downtown two years ago under the steerage of three owner-operators—brothers Elie, Michel and Joe Zeidan—is steadily growing into a Montreal-based, vegan and vegetarian-friendly empire. The menu will be featuring what Montrealers have come to know and love in the past two years: Four varieties of their namesake cuisine like the mozzarella-stuffed falafel, served as on-the-go snacks, rolled into pitas, atop salads or as a pizza, with a selection of five different tahini sauces made in-house. “We soak chickpeas daily, add only freshly-cut herbs and homemade spices, grind the falafels (ourselves), (bake and frying) them right in front of you”, Michel tells Eater.
This location, however, promises more variety than the original. In the beverage department, the new Plateau spot will feature specialty coffee, local organic juices, and kombucha tea. Additionally, they will be serving a vegan dessert menu including sfouf, a Lebanese almond and semolina cake.
Here’s Michel on the source of their food:
We basically wanted to take falafel that was known as a Mediterranean “street food” and modernize it… Our cousin (who is also a vegetarian) is the chef that created all the falafel and tahini recipes, and my sister in-law is the creator of our current & popular vegan deserts… So it’s an all family tag-team effort that it took to create what you see today.
After two years, what are they accrediting their success to?
We, the three brothers, are humbled by the amazing feedback so far but as passionate as we are, we feel that we are only getting started. We strongly believe in our concept and know that the recipe to success is to only provide a product that is made with lots of love and care.
Projected opening hours of the new Falafel Avenue location (111 Mont-Royal Ouest) are seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Be sure to contact us on the tipline if you know of any other new locations opening up in the neighbourhood or beyond!
