Didn’t want to throw down $120-plus to see Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher at Osheaga weekend? It turns out that hanging around on Bishop Street would have been a much more economic way to catch a glimpse of the British rock star.
Gallagher (sometimes known as “the loud one”, in relation to his brother and bandmate Noel) stopped by Irish pub McKibbin’s. In a Bill Murray-esque moment of “I’m a celebrity so I’m going to show up someplace just to surprise people”, Gallagher reportedly drifted in, grabbed a guitar, sang, drank and left, according to musician Ben Alexander in an Instagram post on Sunday. The news rapidly went international, via British music magazine and site NME.
There’s even a video of the whirlwind visit, which an Oasis fan page quickly reposted (yes, there are still active Oasis fan pages). In it, Montreal musicians Bob Cussen and Belfast Andi (a McKibbin’s regular) join Gallagher.
Who shows up to the Irish jams at @mckibbinsirishpub bishop on Sundays? ... LIAM F$&%'N GALLAGHER, THATS WHO!!! He came, he sang, we drank, and just like that he was gone... awesome guy, surreal afternoon...

Elsewhere on Gallagher’s tour of Montreal was Mount Royal, a park which he later deemed “trippy” on Twitter.
