The Point is home to a new neighbourhood watering hole, as Wellington Ash staged its official opening over the weekend.
The Pointe-St-Charles bar takes over the location that was occupied by Chez Dallaire from 2015 until its closure at the beginning of this year, with its quite literal name reflecting the bar’s location on the corner of Wellington and Ash streets.
The opening event for the bar hinted at some industry politics cropping up as the address transitioned from Chez Dallaire to the new venue, with the somewhat cryptic note that “Chez Dallaire was no longer a place we felt represented us, but more so the vision of old partners.” Hugo Dallaire, the former bar’s namesake, appears to be out as a partner, but at least one owner from the previous iteration (Calvin Suggitt) has stuck around.
Potential behind the scenes drama aside, Wellington Ash seems to be positioning itself as more of a low-key, casual neighbourhood hub. The decor has various homey and retro elements, from old record covers as decorations to vintage furniture and a few leather banquettes and booths, alongside one or more foosball tables — bar snacks, beers, and cocktails round out the offerings.
STATUS — Wellington Ash is open at 2035 Wellington Street from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tuesday to Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday).
