LATIN QUARTER — After eight years on the corner of St-Laurent and Marie-Anne (with a small épicerie a block away), Plateau Lebanese grill Omnivore is taking its sandwiches, salads, and mezzes further south with a second location. It’ll be across from the Théâtre St-Denis in the Latin Quarter, around the busy St-Denis strip that’s mostly home to terrassed bars and casual dining spots. There’s no word yet on when the new location is set to open.

MILE END — Per La Presse, there’s a new pop-up in town for the summer, focusing on Nicaraguan-style barbecue. Named Espadon, it comes from former Tripes et Caviar chef Jean Michel Leblond and sommelier Jessica Midlash, and will be available at Bar Kabinet on Laurier every Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 10 p.m. The menu centres around an outdoor grill: expect griled hanger steak, asparagus or sardines, barbecued lamb leg, all with various spicy or herby accoutrements — prices stick under the $20 mark.

GRIFFINTOWN — The condo-people are mad again, this time at big Ottawa Street club New City Gas. A group named Action NCG (New City Gas) are trying to petition Quebec’s Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux to penalize the venue, citing lots of noise and too many drunk people around, more or less. Given the neighbourhood’s condo boom in the last half-decade, there’s a very good chance many of the complainers moved in after New City Gas reopened in 2012, so they probably should have thought a little harder before moving in adjacent to a space that fits several thousand possibly drunk people.

PLATEAU — Go-to spot for vegan baked goods Sophie Sucrée is turning five, and is throwing a garden party at its bakery on des Pins this Saturday (July 14). It looks to be a family-friendly affair; arrive early to score free treats from other vegan establishments in Montreal like sausage-and-cheese-maker Gusta and soap-maker Saved By The Box, as well as ice cream and other freebies from the bakery itself.
