Here’s a cozy new coffee situation for the Griffintown crowd: café Chez l’Éditeur has opened up on Notre-Dame West near de la Montagne.
The coffee shop is billed as a “café littéraire”, and if you’re a fan of books and coffee rolled into one, this is far better than a Starbucks inside a giant chain bookstore — it’s actually operated and owned by Québécois publishing house Québec Amérique, in conjunction with communications firm Roy & Turner.
Québec Amérique has already operated a café for around a year and a half on St-Hubert Street in Villeray, connected to its headquarters, and the Griffintown edition is its first expansion.
With coffee options spanning right across to canned cold brew and oat milk options, Chez l’Éditeur gets a third wave approach in a homey setting tucked away on the second floor, cut out for reading or working with a laptop — light breakfasts and sandwiches are also on the menu at very reasonable prices, mostly under $7. The space will likely also play host to events such as author talks.
STATUS — Chez l’Éditeur will open at 1372 Notre-Dame West on Friday September 15.
