Pointe-St-Charles welcomes a promising new pizza restaurant this weekend as Fugazzi Pizza will open on Centre Street.
It comes from the owners of tidy Old Montreal restaurant Barroco, chic French-American diner-but-fancy, Foiegwa, in St-Henri, and its neighbour, Atwater Cocktail Club. As previously reported, it features ex-Au Pied de Cochon staffer JP Miron heading up the kitchen (also known for appearing on Top Chef Canada).
Fugazzi is going to focus on Neapolitan-style pizzas — it’ll have a take-out window, but the main attraction will be an 80-seat dining room. The Gauley Brothers (who also did Foiegwa) are behind the design, and it looks to be a change from their often smooth, modern approach — the first images of the dining room show a more vintage vibe, with velvety banquettes, checkered tablecloths, and a solid dose of kitsch in the wallpaper and light fixtures.
Beyond the pizzas — which seem to be leaning classic in their toppings — there will be a few fresh pasta options and vegetable dishes.
It’s not the only development slated for that building — the Fugazzi folks are also planning to open a speakeasy-type bar on site. They’ve already got a bar license in hand, but other details on that are still to come.
STATUS — Fugazzi Pizza opens at 1886 Centre on Saturday, January 12. Open evenings — exact hours are to be confirmed.
